I love that phrase....Peace Out. My students use it a lot. Yesterday, a friend said it to me. I don't know why it resonates with me, but I like it.
My Peace quilt went "out" to the quilter and now it's back, and I even got it bound already. It's hard to take a photo of it with no one around to hold it. So, I draped it over the back end of the trailer for a photo. I absolutely love it. And so does Sweet Pea.
I forgot to take a close up of the binding. It's lavender. The same lavender as is in the pinwheels.
I asked a friend, Christine Hollaway, to quilt it. I think she did a fabulous job. She quilted the pinwheels with this nice, curvey triangle. She used a variegated thread on this part. The thread has pinks and other subtle color variations in it. If you didn't look closely, you wouldn't see the variations.
In the open white areas, I asked her to do big flowers. I thought that would fit well with the "peace and love" theme. I love what she did. She even threw in some feathers that you can see here. I'm so very happy with this.
The back is a minkey-like fabric. It's more stretchy than minkey, but soft like it. I wanted something soft and cuddly on the back. I had hoped to put a pale pink or lavender on the back, but Sweet Pea chose this fabric. I like the feel of it, but was worried about the darkness of it behind the white. However, she insisted.
Here is a close up of the backing fabric and the quilting. It does look nice!
But when the light is behind it, you can see how it shows through. I guess it doesn't really matter, because we won't be holding up in front of the light much. Haha. When it's not in front of the light, you really can't see it.
Christine wasn't happy, because some of the black fuzzy stuff from the back pulled up to the front when she quilted it, like you see here. I can see what she means, but I have to tell you....unless you're looking close up like this, you don't see them. They do not bother me and, more importantly, they do not bother Sweet Pea one bit. In fact, I doubt she notices them.
You can click on any of these photos to make them larger if you want to see them closer up.
This is a quilt that will get used and loved a lot. It will probably be her cuddle-up-in-front-of-the-TV quilt. So, it's fine! But I thought I would show you this for your own benefit when you are planning the back of your quilt.
In case you are interested, I posted a review of this pattern a while back. The pattern was designed by my friend Rene'. I just love it. Great pattern and great quilt!
You can get a copy of the pattern here....or you can get a copy on Craftsy here.
I'm happy to have another finish! That feels good! Yippee!
Peace quilt finished. I gotta get to work, so.....Peace Out. Happy Friday!
Until next time,
It looks great! I think that is good information to keep in mind when planning quilt backings--thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous!!! I am so looking forward to making mine (thank you again!). I decided it will go to my 'peace sign loving niece' for Christmas this year. Yours turned out so pretty, Stephanie!!

Yay for finished! Looks great. I've had the same experience with using that kind of fabric on the back of a cotton front. Some of the fuzzies quit peeking through after several washings, but a few I can still see. It's a kid quilt though and the kid doesn't care one bit.

I like so many things about this quilt, Stephanie...not the least of which is the soft backing...what a great idea for a cuddly quilt. I'm in a block swap group with Rene'....talented lady!

Stephanie, your finished quilt is beautiful! I love how your friend quilted it with the curvy triangles inside the pinwheels and the big flowers in the negative space. Your daughter did a great job picking out all the fabrics. Hope she enjoys lots of cuddle time with her peace quilt.

Love how your quilt turned out. Did you use any batting? I've always wanted to use the Minkee for a backing but have been afraid to try it. It's so great to see what all those pinwheels were for. Beautiful quilt.

My daughter says Peace Out Boy Scout to me - and the one day I was going to reply Peace Out Girl Scout she beat me too it. (How did she know I was going to say that?) The quilt is lovely and so happy that Sweet Pea will have it to cuddle with.
