Last July, when I went on my quilting retreat to Gruber's, I met a wonderful person named Rene' (check out her blog). Rene' loves Kaffe Fassett as well as western stuff, because she and her family has a cabin in Montana. Well, recently, Rene' made this little quilt and posted in on her blog. I absolutely adored it! I have some of this cowboy fabric, but in a different colorway. I haven't had the nerve to cut into it yet. As you can see, Rene' didn't have that problem. And do you see some of the Kaffe Fasset shot cotton fabric in this little quilt, too?! (The multi-colored stripe.) Love it! Anyway, Rene' blogged that she was donating this quilt to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. Rene' donates several quilts to this initiative. The quilts are either auctioned or sold to raise money for Alzheimer's research. I had been waiting and waiting for it to come up for sale, because I WANTED it! Well, looky here! I got it! Me so happy! (And I got to support a great cause at the same time. How cool is that?!)
Sorry the photos aren't the greatest. I wanted to get them outside, where the light was good for once (the sun was actually out!), but it was so dang windy, it was hard to keep things still long enough for the photo! I had to hold the quilt with one hand and take the photo with the other!
I really adore the quilting she did on this. My favorite quilting parts are on the blue fabric...it looks like barbed wire to me...and on the yellow fabric...it looks like a cactus. So creative!
Doesn't the quilting in the striped fabric look like a lasso rope? :-) I also love how she quilted in some of the selvege. It's just raw edge and attached via the quilting. I think her binding fabric is really cool, too. It reminds me of canvas, or some other dusty cowboy fabric.
This is totally going either in the Cowboy bedroom (my guest bedroom....as soon as we finish remodeling the basement, I'll provide better photos), or in the guest bathroom associated with that bedroom. I plan to do that in a western/cowboy theme, too.
Anyway, thanks, Rene'! I really, really love this little quilt!
If you are interested, go check out the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. Maybe you'll find something you like, too, and you can support a good cause while you are at it!
Got my haircut yesterday. Ahhh....that felt good. Today, I'm doing some schoolwork, taking Sweet Pea a special lunch to school (can you say McDonald's chicken mcnuggets?), doing some sewing, and then going out for dinner for Papa Pea's birthday. Big day. Just found out I have to go to a work-related meeting tomorrow. So much for having a whole week off. :( I've been good and said NO to all other meetings that people tried to schedule. But I really need to do this one. Shoot.
Until next time,
Mama Pea
P.S. I swear, I read every post three times (yes, three!) before posting it. I read it as I type, I proofread it in the text editor, and then I proofread it again in "preview" mode. So, how is it that yesterday I had a typo in the title (Thinks for Things) and in the FIRST word fo the post (Rememer instead of Remember)?! Argh! I can't tell you how much my typos bug me. Sorry for that!
I love this little quilt. And it is such a worthy cause you have donated to. I know Michele Bilyue also donates quilts to this cause. I love what she does too and wish I could have one. You have inspired me to look into it further. Thanks for the links.

I just went to the Alzheimer's site and looked at all the quilts available for sale and auction. I was surprised. I thought the prices would be out of site. They are very reasonable. Now I just have to make up my mind which I want. There are so many lovely ones. I'm thinking of one I want to donate.

Congratulations--don't you just love winning "your quilt" at the auction! This quilt is so bright and cheerful and would be a perfect addition to your cowboy room!

What an adorable little quilt and a good cause too! I've been grading most of the day. I'm going to stop and go sew some now.

Great quilt and love the use of the selvage! Typos bother me, makes me wonder if I talk as poorly...LOL!

Stephanie, so glad you are pleased with the mini quilt (even after you saw it in person...ha). It makes me happy knowing that you now have it. Think it'll look in your cowboy room (love that bed quilt by the way). Thanks for supporting Alzheimer's research! Happy belated birthday to your husband. Enjoy the rest of your week!

LOL!! Well somehow typos just seem to happen. They bug me too, no matter how much I tell myself to let it go. So...back the the cowboy quilt. Awe!!! Just adorable! I love the barbwire quilting.

Well, this week has been full - from helping at the polls on Super Tuesday to attending a family visitation last night and funeral today (Thurs) for a friend's dad. So I'm behind on your posts and just catching up....you've fixed your typos and I didn't get to see them!! LOL! Sounds like you're having a good spring break week!

Thanks to both you and Rene from AAQI! I am on the board of directors and we could not do it without our quilt makers and our quilt buyers! Have you checked out our new "Patrons of Our Art" section? (http://www.alzquilts.org/pooa.html) Here we celebrate our buyers, both large and small, and the reasons they buy our little works of art. Stop on by and tell your story . . . and again, thanks so much!!
