Over the weekend, I did some sewing and knitting. Here's an update.
Earlier in the month, I had received this from Bonnie, for the Two's Company Quilt Bee. She asked us sto use the red/white block for the center and to add a fabric that "reads" as red for the other pieces. I thought this looked very traditional and almost "civil-war-like."
So, I added this fabric and made up the block. I hope she likes it. This was a really fun block to make, and it went together very quickly. It is 9" square. I bet this is going to make a terrific quilt. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
In hindsight (now that I see the photo), I think I should have picked a fabric that had a different pattern than this one. This one seems to compete a little with such a very similar fabric in the center. But when you back away from it, you really don't see all the pattern, so I think it will be okay.
If you want to see what the others are doing with this block, hop on over to the Two's Company Quilt Bee page. There are some that are very different from mine!
I bought this yarn when I was at the Michigan Fiber Arts Festival a few weeks back. It was actually a hank that I rolled into a ball. I just LOVE the colors. I got it from Briar Rose Fibers. She hand paints the yarn. Very cool. I could not resist this. It's called Legend. If you want to see it, click here. They don't seem to have this color right now, but the other colors are scrumptious, too. It was hard to choose one. And if you really want this and referred her to my yarn, she will probably hand paint some for you. (She did that for me on another hank of yarn.)
I'm knitting a sweater vest with it--it's called the Summer Wave Tank. Click here if you want to see the pattern. It's also from Briar Rose. (I have another of her patterns, too, and another couple hanks of yarn for that as well.) They had this made up at their booth, and I loved it. It is knitted in the round (yay! very little finishing work to do when it's done). This is the bottom edge of the vest. It will have one more section of this lacy pattern (hard to see right now, because it's all bunched up on the needles), and then stockinette stitch the rest of the way up.
Here's another shot. It's such delectible yarn to work with. A really nice, soft wool. I love feeling it in my hands and watching the colors change. I want to get it done so I can wear it this fall.
These are most of what I did this weekend. I was pretty lazy, to be honest with you. I was just plain tired. I have some other stuff I can show you from last weekend, which I never had time to post. So, I'll do some catching up this week.
Hope you're all having a happy Monday. I'm glad 9/11/11 is over. I thought it was terribly emotional. I hope that we are stronger, as a nation, because of the past events. I hope our nation continues to draw together...though sometimes it feels like we're coming apart at the seams. I guess that statement gives you a feeling of my mood today...
Until next time,
Mama Pea
P.S. On the bright side...I'm down 36.6 pounds now, and I ran 2.3 miles today. I'm working on building my endurance. It wasn't all at once. I'm doing Couch to 5K, so it's in small bouts of running, interspersed with walking.
