IF YOU WERE HERE EARLIER TODAY AND THE LINK TO THE PILLOW PROJECT WASN'T WORKING, TRY AGAIN. I THINK I FIXED THE LINK. NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS WRONG!
Good morning everyone! Oh, I have such exciting news for you today! The first guest post for The Quilted Fish Design Team is posted! Click here to go to the tutorial and free pattern for making this FABULOUS pillow! I just LOVE IT! Did KarrieLyne of Freckled Whimsey do a great job designing this, or what?!!! I think this is incrediby creative. The pillow is made from The Quilted Fish's Sweet Divinity fabric, which I think is so cute. I am really into this color combination of red, pink, bright blue, and gree. There are great flowers, polka dots, stripes, and...Sweet Pea's favorite...little princess crowns.
I am so incredibly honored (and quite frankly, humbled) to be on this team. I am working on my tutorial, and I think it's fine, but then I saw this and was blown away. I have a bunch of scraps left. I think I will just HAVE to make this for Sweet Pea! Hop on over to The Quilted Fish blog and check out this tutorial. There's a downloadable PDF of the project for your enjoyment, too!
Are any of you going to a quilt retreat this weekend? Or maybe you have something else you're going to that you need to bring a dish for...
...Well, have I got a recipe for you. My mom used to make these while we were at school. And when I'd come home at the end of the day and find these sitting on the counter, I tell you, it just made my day. It is one of my favorite memories of childhood! Well, a little while back, Sweet Pea started having problems with a little girl at school who was making some verbal threats and pushing her around a bit. That was before Christmas. Well, the little girl started pushing her around again this past Monday. So, after school on Monday, Sweet Pea and I had a little mother/daughter time. She wanted to cook together. (As you know, that's my favorite thing...NOT.) So, I decided we'd make Special K bars...My favorite. I thought I'd share the recipe with you.
Sorry I didn't think to take a better photo before we ate them all. This is as good as it gets!
Mom's Special K Bars
1 C sugar
1 C light corn syrup
1 and 1/2 C peanutbutter
6 C Special K cereal
6 oz butterscotch chips
6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
Melt first three ingredients over low heat. (I use our tall pasta pot to do this in.) Stir in cereal. Pour into a buttered 9x13" pan. Spread around (you sort of have to push it and mash it around) until it covers the bottom. Melt the butterscotch and chocolate chips together either in the microwave or over low heat in a heavy pan. Pour this over the cereal mixture and allow to cool. Cut and serve.
No calories in that recipe, huh?
If you make these, watch out. They are totally addicting! I am not responsible for any weight gain you experience as a result of my posting this recipe!
Sweet Pea loved them as much as I do. She asked if she could have one. I said, "Sure." She went over to the pan to cut herself one and came back with a bar about 7" x 2"! Haha! I told her that was a little too much. She didn't get it. A girl after my own heart.
I've discovered this recipe isn't much of a national secret. It's now on the side of the Rice Krispies box, but they suggest making it with Rice Krispies. I am here to tell you, it's not as good with Rice Krispies. Make it with Special K. It's better, I think.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Until next time,
Mama Pea
I love rice krispie treats, but these with the Special K sound pretty good!

Maggie,
I like Rice Krispie treats, too. But the Special K gives it a completely different texture. denser?
Enjoy your weekend!

Suggestion-why not invite the other little girl and her mom over for a playdate and make these bars and a craft? Maybe then they will be friends and you can also observe what's going on not only between the girls but between that girl and her mom. Maybe there's a problem there.

Thanks for the recipe Stephanie. They sound good. I need to try that pillow. It is adorable and would make nice Christmas gifts for my granddaughters. Can't wait to see your project. Hugs.

Adorable pillow project. The links don't work yet though. I am assuming the post just hasn't been made yet. I will definitely check back. I'm in the mood to make a pillow!

Oh these Special K bars look soooo goood! I would think the Special K would be better as the cereal has more flavor then Rice Krispies. One thing I like about the pillow is the binding on the pocket - just a little extra to make it cuter.

Thanks for your sweet post and those bars look YUM!!! I think the linky issue was because she moved the post to the top which actually changed the URL. I had to fix mine too. :)

That pillow is too darling - guess where I'm going to link it? LOL! I'm sorry Sweet Pea is being bullied. I hope the situation is resolved soon! Might have to make some of those bars...mmmmmmmmmm.

Wow! That tree quilt is amazing!!! You need to come take a "vacation" soon and teach my son how to sew straight and do the binding (he really liked trying to quilt, but I've never done it before, and was no help at all for him. We did well cutting and peicing together - he even started making his own designs! It was the actual sewing part that got us stuck, so he gave up.) :(
Your Special K bars look awesome. I have a similar recipe I will have to dig up soon and send to you.

We made the Special K bars this weekend. They are already gone, very popular. Kids I didn't even know until today ate the last two. Thanks for the recipe! <3

These look yummy! I had made Jeff peanut butter chocolate krispie bars for his birthday and they seem similar. And yes, they will be posted on the blog one of these months! haha!
