Hi Everyone,
I have been working on my Cowboy Blessing project (you can get a kit by clicking on the name of the project) that I purchased from Shelly at Prairie Moon Quilts. I am actually making two of these...one for me and one as a Christmas gift. I know there are two ways you can stitch outlines and letters: using the backstitch or using the stem stitch. I can never decide which to use. I think my stem stitch is a little neater than my backstitch. So, I typically do that. On this project, I decided to stitch one of each. I stitched them both with two strands of DMC floss.
Here is the one I did in the stem stitch. I used french knots for the periods and to dot the i's. It came out a lot thicker than the backstitch (see below).
Here is the one I did with the backstitch. I used little x's for periods and to dot the i's.
I haven't pressed either one yet after stitching. I will do that before I assemble the projects.
I don't know which I like best. I think I like the backstitched one the best. Papa Pea says he likes the stem stitched one more.
At least the both look pretty good.
I think I will try to put them together this weekend. If I get that done, I'll actually have one Christmas present finished. This is a record for me!
Have a wonderful day!
Until next time,
Mama Pea
Adorable! I like them both. The first one looks a little more masculine and the other more like a cowgirl!
You are so smart starting your Christmas gifts!
Hugs,
Donna

They're so cute! I can't decide which I like better, either. I couldn't even decide on my own, so I used stem stitch for the barbed wire and backstitch for the letters! How's that for a decision? The thought of a Christmas gift flitted into my mind for about a second, then it was gone. You ARE smart to be getting started so early!

I like both too! Your stitches are so fine. The little barb-wire around really adds a nice touch, makes it too cute.

So very cute! I like them both. I also like the idea of Shelly's of using the stem stitch for the barbed wire and backstitch for the letters. Neat!
