Did you press your seams opens? That would help with some of the bulk. Eleanor Burns has a half square triangle square up ruler that makes trimming down oversized half square triangles squares go much faster. You use it before you press open your square. I like the colors in the block. But if you are not enjoying doing the BOM, see if you can stop with the one block.

I pressed my seams open on the last step (i.e., putting the rows together). I remembered that tip from Sue Garman from our TQS block of the month. It helped a little. I followed the instructions given for the rest of the pressing and found myself wishing I had pressed more seams open throughout.

I'll have to look for the ruler you're talking about. It sounds great. Thanks for the tip.

I really need to think about what I'm going to do with this BOM and whether I will continue it.
